The Empire Waistline

Commonly used in the late 18th and early 19th centuries (and inspired by ancient Greek-Roman styles), this waistline hits just below the bust. (For visual reference, watch any Jane Austin movie adaptation.) From evening gowns to baby-doll dresses, it remains a fashion-forward (and flattering) silhouette.
