HAIR TRENDS 2011

Long Length Hairstyles -Double Knot
Knots & plats have been particularly popular over the last few years, so it is only natural that the knot has now developed to the double knot. The front of the hair can be styled in various ways, while the back is just simply tied into two knots! It is then secured with hairspray & pins.
Braided Topknot
Another adaption to last years braids, which meets the increasingly popular topknot. This braided topknot, which has previously been shown on my blog in SS, has been very popular on the SS11 catwalks. The hair is parted into sections, where french braids are platted to where the base of the topknot will be. After braiding, the plats are then tied into a topknot & secured with hairspray & clips.

Medium Length Hair Styles - Weaved Bob

The bob has now taken a mix 70's glam vibe onto it, for a softer feel and 40's pin-up for a textured, glamorous wave. The key to this style is not to overdo, but to be relaxed & understated.

Medium Length Haircuts - The Fringe / Bangs

Abbey Lee Kershaw is seen bellow modelling the latest trend for mid lengths. This style has been one of the most in & out of style trends, with it last appearing in 2008. Next year, it is mainly cut with a longer bob. It has also taken inspiration from 1970's glamour, which is neatly blow-waved under a straight -but not harsh - edge. It could also be inspired by the more folky 1960's, which was back combed, with flicked ends and unfussy. The style best works with natural, block shades.

Short Haircuts - The Pixie Crop

As shown bellow on Emma Watson, the 70's pixie crop has re-appeared, which has rather revolved from the slightly longer version seen in 2007. This crop is about shorter sides, with slightly longer top & fringe, that merge perfectly together. This crop can be styled to look boyish, rock chick or elegant. They can also be cut with a longer fringe for variation.

Change of colour . . .

The most popular hair colours for 2011 include . . . white blond/platinum and the redhead bombshell.

Platinum shades can be warn with or without dark roots. For an elegant approach go for bombshell waves or straight and sleek, but keep elegant long in length. For a sharper look, model Kate Peck is great influence.

For the red shades, either a deep red or a more natural ginger shade, much like Lily Cole's natural shade. This shade is best suited for pale/porcelain skin, perhaps with freckles and blond/fair eyebrows, which can be achieved through bleaching professionally. This shade can work well with a warrior, pin-up or maiden trend in particular.

Here are some other examples of people taking on the CHANGE of colour . . .

Lily Cole before & after, turning her brilliant copper locks to a darker glossy brown shade. Her dramatic colour change expresses strongly how the new year of 2011 IS THE year for change, as Lily's trademark red locks & even eyebrows to match have been swapped. Her fringe is also another big trend for 2011.

While Lily has moved away from red, Eniko Mihalic (above) has stepped into her shoes, with a deeper, richer red - changing from a mousy blond. Her innocent cute-as-a-button look before is a vast contrast & change to her now 50's pin-up, yet very glamorous look. Plus the red shade is going to be one of the biggest next year!

Abbey Lee Kershaw (above) has also moved on from her mousy blond hair; she has now gone for a platinum blond. This has said to help her set apart from others, after she describes this radical decision as she "just changed it". This is another key hair colour for 2011.

Not one to miss out on trend setting, Kate Moss has also joined the change, turning from a golden blond to dark, glossy brown. This new hair colour was however only a wig for the shoot for Vogue Italia December 2010, shown above, taken by Nick Knight. The shoot showed a new sex-kitten-come-voyeuristic side to Moss, enhancing the new trend of changing hair colours.

Print Detail . . . AGAIN!!!

In continuation from my previous post, I have now found some leopard printed shorts, with a difference - they are finished with a wet look!!! As is the shirt. And since leopard print seems to be going nowhere - but seems to be evolving - it seems to be a good investment of print for your wardrobe. These particular pair of shorts are seen here on the editor of Vogue Turkey.

Print Detail

Printed pants move over for printed mini's next season, as the dramatic prints now dominate the entire outfit, for maximum impact.

The Geeky Specks of 2011

The style of 'Geek Sheek' has been developing throughout 2010, roll up jeans . . . granpa jumpers . . . braces (for trousers not teeth!) . . . hair cuts . . . and since the very lasts Big Brother's Josie & Caoimhe began wearing their fake specks around the house, the style has escalated onto the streets of Britain. This trend is now tipped to be BIG this year.

Identity Clone

The new shoot for Vogue Paris January 11, shot by Tom Ford, staring Crystal Renn, shows a collection of images expressing the obsessive need to look - how society feels is - 'perfect'. The collection starts with a beautiful yet vain young woman, who criticizes her appearance in the mirror. This then resorts to plastic surgery, of which becomes obsessive, and shows how she can not refrain, but has her nose, her mouth, a face lift, her boobs, etc etc all altered. This article highlights the dark side of beauty, and how the obsession can clone us into all wishing to look identical, until we loose the person we really are. Personally I think this highly emotional piece is very successful, as it has the ability to connect with almost every female.

Lea Michele & Gwyneth Paltrow - Nowadays/ Hot Honey Rag GLEE

So. . . GLEE IS BACK!!!! cant wait till the new season!

i-D's Winter 2010 by David Bailey

The 'Disarm' shoot by David Bailey, for i-D magazine, staring Abbey Lee Kershaw, showed a collection of daring yet beautiful images, all of which stripped back the complicated to reveal the true. The models were - as the title suggests - disarmed from the bravado that hid any insecurities, in order to express their true personalities and 'inner' strength. The models are still very confident, which may be representing how women of today have put down their guards, as they are now much more self-confident, with the ability to hold their heads high. Girl power all the way!

Terry Richardson's shoot for Vogue Paris Jan 11

The new fashion shoot, by Terry Richardson, featured in the first issue of Vogue Paris for 2011, in the January magazine. His collection of images shows a strong trend ready to seize spring11 with the same force as the red hot poker used to mark the male, as if he was just a common piece of live stock within the photos. I just love the glossy look to the photos, and how - although dressed extremely feminine and elegant - the females seize power over the male "cowboys". I am looking forward to this Western trend arriving soon into our lives!!

Satya Twena Hats

This new line of hand-crafted hats, by milliner Satya Twena, is playfully inventive, attracting a suitably mischievous muse. Her desire to take risks when designing may remind us of that of Philip Treacy's designs, although she modestly denies this comparison is worthy. That I argue. These extravagant and flirty designs just proves the worthiness of this comparison. Her designs are inspired by both vintage and modern styles, which will stay enduring for many seasons to come. This flawlessly executed collection is unbelievably her first too!
She studied for two years, in order to learn everything from letter press printing to sewing. This drive comes from her Bohemian up-bringing, she explains she "grew up thinking everything and anything can inspire art". She also says that this helps her within her design process, as "Each skill provided me with a distinctively different way of using and thinking of materials. For example, I don't look at a felt hood and think to just mold it on a block like a traditional milliner. I think about what would physically happen to the felt if I burned and scored it and then tied to block it".
Her online shop opened earlier this month, but she is already looking towards her future, "looking to collaborate with interesting people on designing avent-garde headwear". New pieces are added each week, ranging from $110 - $1200.

SHOWstudio - Tribute to Alexander McQueen by Nick Knight, music by Björk

During the British Fashion Awards, Nick Knight presented his short film as a tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen. The film was directed by Knight, with the sound track by Bjork & styled by Edward Enninful in the best of McQueen. The video also souly features coloured models. Knight expresses "This film is my way of speaking about a very unique and important person who changed my life . . . My desire was to speak in some way about the dark and the light contained within Lee, and within us all."

Lady Gaga -Christmas Tree

Well I LOVE Lady GaGa & I love xmas, so put them both together, and you get Lady GaGa's Christmas Tree . . .

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

"I Am A Parisian Lady" by Baudouin

I just love how this photo, by French photographer Baudouin, really captures the passion of which the subject of the photo clings to with drastic obsession. The busy & quite cluttered room, of which appears to be her's, helps the viewer to understand what this obsession is about & just how powerful it is. Personally I sometimes feel like this model, grasping to keep on top of my passion for designing, clinging to my own tailors mannequin, in the middle of my cluttered studio. . .

River Island SS11 Exclusive . . .

Next season, SS11, has now been revealed at River Island, where I was able to get a sneak peak of what can be expected for you. The strongest trends of next season that seems to be emerging include neutral colours in sheer fabric, embellishments, tassels and floral designs. Other than the feminine, 60's fashion is making a re-appearance-with mini dresses, as is leather and acid bright colours. Personally I know I will be saving up for a pair of the leather shorts and white embellished & tasselled heels!! They are GORGEOUS!!!
